Maria Claudio Serrano, born on October 1, 1960, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A loving soul admired by many, Maria will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her faith, her community, and her family.

Devoted to her role as a mother, Maria raised three children in a single-parent household, embodying the belief that it truly takes a village to raise children. Her deep Christian faith guided her actions, providing her with the wisdom to foster a nurturing environment for her family and those around her. Through her dedication to community activism, Maria consistently sought to understand and engage with her surroundings, fully immersing herself in the American lifestyle.

For over 27 years, Maria served as a cherished block captain, demonstrating her commitment to the neighborhood by organizing summer lunches for local children and offering spiritual guidance to anyone willing to listen. Her compassion extended beyond her immediate circle, as she frequently visited neighbors to gather donations for sanitation workers and mail carriers, highlighting her belief in supporting all who served the community.

Maria's involvement with the Fishtown Brewing community reunions exemplified her desire to connect with others, strengthening bonds and creating a supportive atmosphere for families in her area. Her tireless efforts to enact positive change will leave a lasting impact on the lives of those fortunate enough to have crossed her path.

Maria’s visitation services will be held at Compagnola Funeral Home- 5th St. in Philadelphia. The first visitation will take place on March 6, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by another visitation on March 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A burial service will proceed at Magnolia Cemetery, beginning at 11:15 AM on the same day.
