Felix “Pupi” Legarreta, age 83, of Philadelphia, PA, peacefully passed away on Sunday July 2, 2023 at his residence surrounded by those who loved him dearly.

Cuban violinist, flutist, composer and arranger Félix ‘Pupi’ Legarreta one of the stellar figures of the fania all star the iconic orchestra that brought together select musicians at the height of salsa.

He interpreted one of the most popular songs in the entire history of salsa as it is ‘The banana plantation of Bartolo‘, in which he does a masterful performance on the violin.

The nickname “Pupi”, which made him famous in the Latin music scene in New York, the Caribbean basin and Latin America, was imposed on him from childhood by his father, in a show of affection.

Before venturing into the musical circuit, Félix Legarreta was a carpenter, a cabinetmaker, a trade he had carried out since he was a child.

By request of the family there will be no public  funeral where he will be cremated and his vigil will only bring together only the most immediate circle of the family.
